A VERY RARE OPPORTUNITY TO AQUIRE A PEACEFUL RURAL PROPERTY ON THE BEAUTIFUL ISLAND OF LA GOMERA. BARGAIN PROPERTY - JUST REDUCED
Introduction - the Island
The island of La Gomera is the second smallest and also the oldest of the 7 Canary Islands. It is barely 30 kms - a 45 minute ferry ride - away from Tenerife, but it is a different world! The island is almost circular, with the lush, laurel-forested heights of Garajonay rising to 1,487m. (5000 ft approximately) in the centre, from which deep, palm tree filled ravines (barrancos) radiate out to the coast. This laurisilver forest has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
It’s a place to go to appreciate the simpler things in life and admire the beautiful rural and coastal scenery or just a place to find peace of mind and get away from the hustle and bustle. The numerous ancient paths throughout the island make it a walker’s paradise. Cars or mountain bikes can be hired to explore the land while scuba diving or a boat trip round the island will reveal it’s spectacular coastline, where steep cliffs plunging down to the sea are interspersed with pebble or exotic black sandy beaches.
Hermigua, the Village
In the North East of the island, the collection of hamlets that make up Hermigua is scattered the length of a pretty and lush ravine, dominated by banana plantations.
A sign on arrival at the village welcomes visitors, “ Bienvenidos a HERMIGUA donde tenemos el mejor clima del mundo”. ( Welcome to Hermigua, where we have the best climate in the world!)
There are a small number of restaurants and bars along the length of the village, several small shops, two banks (with ATM’s), a post office and a petrol station. Popular with hikers, the area has several walks and is close to the Parque Nacional de Garajonay. Hermigua has a large pebble beach, but as there are strong undercurrents in the north of the island, swimming is usually safer in the large sea-water pool, or at the lovely nearby beach of La Caleta, which also has it’s own restaurant.
The House
Casa Pasiflora is an old traditional house, which has been renovated to provide 2 apartments with modern facilities, but still keeping much of the original character. It is beautifully situated overlooking the banana plantation and is at the end of a quiet cul de sac, with space for parking. The attractive terraces and garden make this a haven while only being a short walk from the facilities of the village.
Alto - above is a 4 person apartment, consisting of an entrance hall; 2 bedrooms; one double and one twin; 2 shower rooms; lounge with TV and DVD; well-equipped kitchen, with oven/microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge and washing machine, and a large terrace and garden. All rooms overlook the banana plantation.
Bajo – below is for 2 people. It consists of an entrance hall leading up to the kitchen (well-equipped with oven/microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge) at the rear, through a utility room (with washing machine), to the shower room. Also off the hall to the left is the double bedroom and to the right is the lounge (with TV and DVD), leading out onto the terrace and garden.
